Reel Monsters | A Gallery of 8mm Box Art

Before VHS, 8mm and Super 8 monster movies were extremely popular. These "edited highlights" packages - often available in b&w/silent up to colour/sound variations - had the added allure of garish reel box art, designs which matched the distinctive covers of the monster magazines who readily advertised them. Most fans first encountered 8mm within the back pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland, where Captain Company - Warren publishing's mail order department - would continue to offer titles until they became defunct in 1983.
